Limassol officially lit its Christmas tree at Grigoris Afxentiou Square
On 30 November 2025, the Municipality of Limassol in Cyprus held the ceremony of lighting the large Christmas tree at Grigoris Afxentiou Square. The event was led by Mayor Giannis Armeftis in the presence of members of the municipal council and numerous residents.
The programme included performances by the majorettes of the Cyprus Scouts Corps and the Limassol majorettes, the children’s choir of the Papadakeio Municipal Music School, the youth orchestra of the Limassol Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra, and a dance performance by the “Mahallekidi” dance school.
Before the tree lighting, Aliki Chrysochou performed Christmas songs accompanied by the Limassol Municipal Philharmonic and the choir of the Choral Centre “Cantus”, conducted by Angelina Nicolaidou.
Mayor Giannis Armeftis noted that Christmas reminds us of the importance of humanity, solidarity and the joy of giving, and emphasised the municipality’s commitment to filling these days with warm and unifying events. At the finale, Rafaella Panteli and Christos Georgiou performed the song “Away”, which will represent Cyprus at the 23rd Junior Eurovision Song Contest, after which the festive van with Saint Basil and his wife arrived and distributed gifts to the children.
