The Ministry of Interior has announced that for the second consecutive year, March 2026 has been established as Civil Protection and Civil Defense Awareness Month in Cyprus.

The announcement states that March 1 marks World Civil Defense Day, established in 1990 at the initiative of the International Civil Defense Organization. The Ministry clarifies that the civil defense system includes a complex of measures and actions taken beforehand, during, and after incidents to prevent or properly manage the consequences of disasters.

It is noted that all forces and services officially part of the civil protection system, including the Civil Defense Force, will honor the memory of those who stood at the origins of the organization and those who died in the line of duty. The Ministry also pays tribute to Civil Defense Force volunteers and defenders who participated in its activities, highlighting their contribution to increasing society's resilience to potential natural and man-made risks.

The report indicates that the relevance of World Civil Defense Day has grown in recent years due to ongoing military conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East region.

On March 5 at 10:30 AM, at the "Theophilos Georgiadis" amphitheater of the Press and Information Office, the planned activities for Civil Protection Month 2026 will be presented.
