The mother reported bullying of a child with autism at a Larnaca gymnasium
The mother of a child on the autism spectrum, Georgios Lizidou, accused a gymnasium in Larnaca, Cyprus, of school bullying. According to her, the incidents began at the start of the academic year and are ongoing.
Lizidou stated that the cases include physical violence, verbal intimidation, and general manifestations of bullying. According to her, despite disciplinary measures taken by the school, the problem remains unresolved.
The mother noted that the public statement is aimed at identifying those responsible and eradicating such incidents at their root. The case is being handled by the police and the school administration, she added, while pledging to respect the process and seek guarantees for her child’s safety.
According to Lizidou, the child returned to school today after assurances from the administration that protective measures would be taken. “The most important thing for me right now is to protect my child,” she said, emphasizing the need for a school environment where students can develop and feel safe from violence and intimidation.
