Cypriot Municipality Reverses Employment Decision After Scandal
The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous was forced to cancel a decision regarding the re-hiring and permanent employment of 17 hourly workers following sharp criticism and a warning from the Ministry of Interior.
An audit revealed that deputy mayors, who are close relatives of some of the employees, participated in the vote, which is a violation of the law.
Following an administrative investigation, Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou demanded the decision be revoked. The municipality complied and announced a new recruitment process for these positions.
Those wishing to apply can obtain the specific forms from the municipality's administrative department until March 11, at 12:00.
