Additional measures ready in Cyprus due to Middle East war — President

April 4, 2026 — In Cyprus, President Nikos Christodoulides, after visiting the National Guard's "Aleuka" post in Pyrgos Tylliria, stated that the government is ready to announce additional measures to mitigate the economic impact of the Middle East war on consumers.

Christodoulides noted that measures already taken exceed 200 million euros, and a measure regarding fuel costs comes into effect today. The President expressed full understanding of citizens' concerns regarding the daily rise in prices for fuel and lubricants.

According to the President, government capacities allow for a response to public expectations within a rational approach and provided current trends continue. He added that data is evaluated daily and that he personally asked the Consumer Protection Service (Υπηρεσία Καταναλωτών) for daily inspections to prevent cases of abuse and speculation.

Christodoulides also pointed to international initiatives for crisis de-escalation as a key priority and emphasized that Cyprus is not a party to the conflict. As the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, it is making efforts to help reduce tensions.
