Amid ongoing abnormal heat on Cyprus, the load on the power system has increased, leading to temporary electricity outages in the capital and Limassol. This was reported by the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC).

Yesterday, disruptions in electricity supply were recorded in Nicosia and Limassol; however, thanks to the rapid activation of reserve capacities at power plants in Dekelia and Moni, the situation was stabilized. Additionally, after sunset, significant support in energy supply was provided by wind power stations.

By 6:00 PM, the island’s power system capacity reached 1040 megawatts. Additional power units at the Moni power plant and the operation of wind parks increased available capacity by 20–25 and 40–45 megawatts respectively.

Nevertheless, EAC warns of possible new power outages in the coming days due to persistent high temperatures and increased electricity demand. Preventive measures are being taken to avoid emergency situations.

The authorities urge Cyprus residents to save electricity and observe safety measures during the extreme heat period to minimize risks of power supply interruptions.
