In Cyprus, cameras issued 712,643 fines since their launch in 2022
Speed and traffic violation cameras in Cyprus, introduced in 2022, have recorded a total of 712,643 violations, the newspaper Fileleftheros reported.
According to the newspaper, speeding ranks first among recorded offenses, while running a red light comes second. Out of all fines issued, more than 330,000 remain unpaid.
The newspaper notes that the main reason for the high percentage of unpaid fines is drivers not receiving notifications. In response to this problem, a bill is being discussed in parliament that would allow notifications about fines to be sent via SMS and email.
