Fake Real Estate Agent Scams Clients out of €430,000 in Cyprus
A 52-year-old woman posing as a real estate agent has been arrested in Cyprus after successfully scamming her "clients" out of €430,000.
According to the Republic of Cyprus Police press office, the suspect was detained based on complaints from trusting buyers.
During the investigation, the police discovered that the arrested woman had presented herself as a real estate agent to at least four different individuals in Limassol, all of whom were looking to buy land or rent apartments.
The alleged fraudster operated between March 2022 and December 2023.
Among her victims was an 81-year-old man whom the suspect convinced to invest €416,500 in the purchase of two real estate properties.
Additionally, last Tuesday, another 81-year-old man and his 52-year-old relative filed complaints against the scammer. They had given her €11,983 for assistance in selling a plot of land.
Prior to these cases, Limassol police received two separate complaints from a 31-year-old and a 54-year-old man. They claimed that the suspect had taken a total of €3,100 from them for renting two apartments.
Furthermore, it was revealed that in August of last year, the suspect scammed a 31-year-old man out of €1,600 for renting an apartment.
In total, the fraudulent activities resulted in approximately €430,000. The enterprising businesswoman is currently arrested and remanded in custody for seven days.
