Smart Meters Installation Begins in Cyprus
On Monday, February 10, Cyprus officially launched the long-awaited upgrade to its electricity supply system: the installation of smart meters. By 2028, the country plans to have half a million of these devices in use.

According to Christina Papadopoulou, a representative of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), the new meters will enable consumers to monitor their energy consumption more closely, ensure accurate and immediate billing, and help identify and address faults more efficiently.
The installation of each meter is expected to cause a brief power outage, lasting about 20 minutes.
EAC crews will mainly work in the afternoons and on weekends, with the goal of installing 500,000 devices by 2028.
Although the project was announced in mid-January, the actual installation of the smart meters has only just started. The first phase will focus on select pilot regions, where the smart meters will be rolled out first.
