Efforts to Prevent Pollution of Akrotiri Salt Lake Discussed in Cyprus
A meeting was recently held in Limassol to address the issue of pollution in the Akrotiri Salt Lake. Participants agreed to stop the discharge of wastewater and stormwater into the Aliki Akrotiri area.
As part of the decision, the Limassol Sewerage Board (SALA) is required to submit a list, within 15 days, of all properties in the area that are not connected to the sewage system. It was noted that some large businesses in the region, which have been operating for many years, are either not connected to the sewage system or are only partially connected.
Once SALA prepares the list, a detailed action plan will be created to schedule the connection of these properties to the sewage system, ensuring that no building or business operates without proper waste management.
The second topic discussed at the meeting was the preparation of a comprehensive study on managing stormwater more effectively.
It was reported that within a month, a research plan will be ready, and a development model for the area will be created to address the problem of stormwater drainage.
