Cyprus Mandates Acceptance of Digital Documents Without Exceptions
Cyprus authorities have issued a reminder that digital documents in the "Digital Citizen" application hold the same legal weight as paper ones and must be accepted by all organizations without exception.
The mobile application allows citizens to store and present:
— Identity card
— Driving license
— MOT (Technical inspection)
— Fan card
Throughout 2026, the list of documents is planned to expand, including data for foreign residents.
The department emphasized that during identity or document checks, citizens have the right to present the digital version, and a refusal to accept it is equivalent to refusing a paper document.
It is also noted that since 2025, the application has been integrated with the Greek Gov.gr Wallet, allowing digital documents to be used in both Cyprus and Greece.
Organizations have been urged to immediately ensure the acceptance of digital documents in all types of offline services.
