Cyprus recalls Opel and Vauxhall vehicles due to defective Takata airbags

The Cyprus Department of Road Transport (Τμήμα Οδικών Μεταφορών — ΤΟΜ) has announced the recall of 2,123 Opel and Vauxhall vehicles equipped with faulty Takata passenger airbags. The decision was made based on a notification from the official brand representative on the island — CIC Automasters.
According to the department, owners of affected vehicles must immediately contact an authorized dealer for a free airbag replacement. Until the defect is fixed, roadworthiness certificates for these vehicles will be temporarily suspended.
According to TOM, the manufacturer warned that the defect could lead to unpredictable airbag deployment, posing an injury risk. Vehicle owners are strongly advised to refrain from using their cars until the repair is completed.
The official website of the Ministry of Transport has published a list of specific models and chassis numbers (VIN) subject to the recall. Owners can check whether their car is affected by entering the VIN number in the recall section at mcw.gov.cy.
The recall is part of a global issue involving Takata airbags, which in some cases could explode upon deployment due to a defective gas inflator. Similar recall campaigns have previously been conducted for other brands, including Toyota, Honda, and Mazda.
