Cyprus plans to increase the cost of vehicle inspections

A bill is being considered in Cyprus that provides for an increase in the fee for mandatory vehicle inspections (MOT). The document was submitted to the plenary session of the House of Representatives and referred to the relevant parliamentary committee for further discussion.
According to the proposed changes, the inspection cost for passenger cars of category M1 (up to 8 seats, excluding the driver) and light trucks of category N1 (with a total mass of up to 3,500 kg), inspected at private centers (Ι.Κ.Τ.Ε.Ο.), will rise from 35 to 43 euros.
At state technical inspection centers (ΚΕΜΟ), the fee for inspections of the same vehicle categories will increase from 40 to 46 euros.
The Ministry of Transport explains the need for the increase by the rise in administrative expenses borne by the state, as well as the growing operating costs associated with inspections. The ministry emphasizes that the new tariffs must also ensure the financial sustainability of private inspection centers.
The bill has already received a positive opinion from the Technical Commission on the establishment and revision of fees and charges. It will now be examined in detail at the meetings of the relevant parliamentary committee.
