Raids against drunk drivers are taking place in Cyprus
From December 11 to 17, the Republic of Cyprus police are conducting raids to identify drivers who have taken the wheel under the influence. Driving under the influence of alcohol remains one of the main causes of serious road accidents, including those with fatal outcomes.
As reported by the "Fileleftheros" publication, according to statistics, a significant portion of all road deaths in the EU is caused by drunk driving.
Alcohol contributes to a decrease in mental abilities and driver reactions while driving, increasing the risk of being involved in a road traffic incident.
Statistics show that over the last three years (2020-2022), reckless driving and operating a vehicle under the influence have become the leading causes of fatal accidents, accounting for 15.7% and 13.4%, respectively.
To prevent accidents, the police announce an increase in checks to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol.
Checks will be carried out around the clock throughout the country from December 11 to 17.
