In Cyprus, the number of building permits issued has sharply decreased, while the value of declared projects has increased

In the first quarter of 2025, the number of building permits issued in Cyprus decreased, but the total value of declared projects increased, according to the country's Statistical Service.
From January to March, authorities issued 1,580 permits — 15.8% fewer than in the same period of 2024 (1,876 permits). However, the total value of the projects increased by 21.7%, the total area by 15.6%, and the number of housing units by 16.7%, due to the rise in apartment building construction.
Limassol remains the leader in all categories: it accounts for the highest value (€401 million), area (337,000 sq.m), and number of projects (1,378). Nicosia ranks second with 610 permits and 1,183 housing units, followed by Larnaca (237 permits, 477 units), Paphos (190 permits, 261 units), and Free Famagusta (89 permits, 113 units).
The Statistical Service reminds that since July 1, 2024, the issuance of building permits has been handled by district administrations through the new information system “Ippodamos”.
