Deadline for Driver’s License Renewal and Road Tax Payment in Cyprus Expires Today
In Cyprus, the deadline for renewing driver’s licenses and paying road tax for 2025 is midnight on March 11.
According to the Department of Road Transport, as of March 6, 627,024 vehicles have had their operating permits renewed.
Registration permits can be extended for three, six, nine, or twelve months. Applications submitted after March 11 will incur a €10 penalty, plus an additional 10% surcharge on the road tax due for the current year.
For owners who renewed their road tax for 2024 but don’t plan to renew it for 2025, they must submit a vehicle suspension notice to the Department of Road Transport. This can also be done online via the official website: https://rtd.mcw.gov.cy.
Vehicles with unpaid 2024 road tax that haven’t been declared as immobilized will be removed from the registry unless both the 2024 and 2025 taxes are paid.
If a vehicle is destroyed, the owner must submit a registration cancellation application (Form 98A), along with a certificate of destruction issued by a licensed scrap metal acceptance point. This will exempt the owner from further tax payments from the date of destruction.
Additionally, the Department has reminded vehicle owners that tax notices were not sent out this year. Owners are advised to update their contact details in the registry to receive future notifications.
