Firework Ban Lifted in Cyprus
Cyprus has lifted its ban on fireworks' usage. Each application will now receive increased attention.
Authorities will strictly adhere to the provisions of the Explosives Legislation and the relevant European Directive on safety issues when considering applications.
Additionally, “conditions and special circumstances” will be taken into account in each specific case.
A license to use fireworks in the country will be issued only after approval by the fire department. Furthermore, if the proposed launch site is less than two kilometers from a forest, permission from the Department of Forestry will be required.
It's important to note that Cyprus authorities banned all types of fireworks at the end of April due to several forest fires, some of which were caused by the use of pyrotechnics.
Following a series of forest fires, the Mines, and Quarries Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment began recalling all previously issued permits for fireworks use and refusing to issue new permits.
Information on the types of fireworks allowed for public use can be found in the Explosives Inspector's notification (C.D.P. 109-2020), available on the website of the Department of Mines and Quarries under the “Explosives Legislation” section.
