New measures to combat Covid-19 have been approved in Cyprus
The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus has approved new measures to combat Covid-19. Access for visitors to nursing homes, hospitals, and other medical institutions will be allowed only if they have a negative result on a Covid-19 test.
According to the new measures, a negative rapid test or PCR test conducted within 48 hours will be mandatory for visiting nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, dentists, and any closed facilities providing assistance to vulnerable population groups. This applies to all individuals aged 12 and older.
Medical facility staff, as well as all visitors aged 12 and older, are required to wear masks.
The announced measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus are similar to those previously agreed upon at the meeting between the Minister of Health, Popi Kanari, and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Covid-19.
Recall that experts have stated that subvariants of Omicron 2, primarily JN.1, have reached an outbreak level in the country.
The new rules come into effect after the publication of the corresponding decree in the government bulletin. It is understood that this will happen on Friday when the Ministry of Health will also publish an explanation.
According to the Minister of Health, at the moment, the government does not plan to tighten these measures.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Health has advised people aged 60 and older, as well as those with underlying health conditions, to get vaccinated with the latest coronavirus vaccine.
In the coming days, mobile vaccination teams will conduct another round of visits to nursing homes and other locations where vulnerable citizens are accommodated.
