School Bus Services Resume in Cyprus
On the morning of December 7th, the operation of some school bus routes in Cyprus is set to resume, including routes from Silikos and Laneia to Lempha Secondary School, with students being transported at their regular times.
The announcement also specifies that school routes from Asgata to Lyceum Linopetras, Agios Nikolaos, Agios Athanasios, and A'Techniki are also running as usual.
Service disruptions continue for other directions. The transportation company is taking all necessary measures to minimize inconvenience to passengers.
It is emphasized that all EMEL buses used on regular city and regional routes are equipped with modern and European-certified automatic fire suppression systems in the engine compartment, in addition to standard fire extinguishers inside the buses and all required fire detection sensors.
Therefore, these buses are not subject to restrictions outlined in the Ministry of Transport decree, and regular routes continue to operate as usual.
Recall that the issue with buses arose in the Republic of Cyprus earlier in the week. To conduct inspections, 570 vehicles not meeting safety requirements were removed from service.
The reason for the inspections was an incident that occurred on Friday morning when a school bus carrying 40 children caught fire during transit. Fortunately, none of the students were harmed – they all managed to evacuate from the burning vehicle in time.
