Government websites temporarily offline in Cyprus due to network infrastructure failure
This morning, Cyprus experienced a major technical failure, causing several government online resources to stop working. The cause of the issue was an accident on the main line of one of the internet service providers supplying internet access to government departments.
Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodimos Damyanou confirmed that the problem affected the internal communication systems of ministries and government institutions. According to him, due to damage to the central cable, some structures lost network access, and the operation of certain online portals was temporarily suspended.
Damyanou emphasized that this is a technical malfunction, not a cyberattack. Specialists from the ministry and the service provider are working to resolve the issue and restore access to the websites as soon as possible.
Users reported being unable to access the official websites of ministries, agencies, and services, as well as experiencing page loading failures. Preliminary data indicates that the failure is local in nature and did not affect the operation of critically important systems.
It is worth noting that similar incidents have occurred previously. In January 2025, government websites were also temporarily offline due to technical problems in the provider’s infrastructure. The authorities of Cyprus state that measures to ensure the stability of digital services in the public sector will be reviewed after the current failure.
