Vehicle Registrations Rise in Cyprus
Vehicle registrations in Cyprus grew by 15.1% in the first two months of 2026. A total of 9,020 vehicles were registered, compared to 7,834 during the same period last year.
In February alone, registrations increased by 24.3%, reaching 4,670 compared to 3,757 a year earlier. Passenger car registrations rose by 23.8% to 3,600 units.
For the January–February period, passenger car registrations increased by 13.7% to 6,917 units. Of these, 34.7% were new and 65.3% were used. Meanwhile, rental car registrations fell from 555 to 502.
The shift in fuel types continues:
- The share of petrol cars fell to 36.2% (from 41.6% a year ago);
- Diesel cars dropped to 8.9% (from 9.2%);
- Electric vehicles reached 5.2% (from 5.3%).
At the same time, hybrid vehicles significantly strengthened their position, with their share rising from 43.9% to 49.6%.
Strong growth was also observed in other transport categories.
Bus registrations more than doubled from 20 to 44, while the number of registered goods conveyance vehicles rose by 26.2% to 1,155.
Among these:
- Rental vans: +88%,
- Heavy trucks: +67.4%,
- Road tractors: +42.9%,
- Light trucks: +18.9%.
In contrast, registrations for mopeds under 50cc dropped from 49 to 15, while motorcycles over 50cc grew by 14.7% to 758 units.
