Cases of illegal animal transportation have been recorded in Cyprus, which may contribute to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

According to veterinary services and the police, inspections revealed at least four cases of violations in Tseri, Potamia, Livadia, and Geri. In total, hundreds of animals are involved, including sheep, goats, and cattle.

In all cases, measures prescribed by law are being applied, and the police are conducting an investigation.

Authorities also reported two serious problems: some farmers are obstructing inspections, and at some farms, the actual number of animals does not match official records.

Experts are investigating whether illegal movements or the concealment of animals could have influenced the spread of the virus.

Authorities remind the public that such violations carry legal responsibility, and offenders may be denied compensation.
