Unusual Foam Spots Noticed at Geroskipou Beach
The Municipality of Eastern Paphos has addressed public concerns regarding unusual foam-like spots that recently appeared at Geroskipou Beach. Authorities have assured residents that this phenomenon is natural and not due to sea pollution from sewage.
The municipality conducted an investigation after swimmers reported the presence of white and brown spots on the beach that resembled foam.
According to scientists, the investigation revealed that the spots are related to the photosynthetic activity of marine organisms rather than sewage pollution.
The municipality also highlighted that recent seawater tests at Geroskipou Beach show very good quality.
Additionally, the Port Authority has notified that, starting August 1, 2024, all vessels will be required to discharge sewage onshore, as has been the practice in recent years. This will now occur under the supervision of the Port Authority or the Marine Police.
