Truck Catches Fire on Limassol–Nicosia Highway: Lane Closed to Traffic
A truck caught fire early this morning on the Limassol–Nicosia highway, leading to the partial closure of the road. Traffic was temporarily redirected to the right lane.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred at around 5:00 AM. The truck caught fire while in motion, near the exit to Governor’s Beach.
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis reported that the fire broke out in the trailer section of the articulated vehicle, which was transporting a car. Preliminary findings suggest the blaze may have been caused by an overheated tire.
Due to the fire, the left lane of the highway in the direction of Nicosia—between Ayios Georgios Alamanos and Zygi—was closed, and vehicles were diverted to the right lane.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene to assist and manage traffic flow. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, but both the truck and the car it was carrying suffered significant damage.
Traffic has since returned to normal.
