Security measures in Southern Cyprus reinforced due to escalation of conflict between Israel and Iran
A state of heightened alert was declared in Southern Cyprus due to the conflict between Israel and Iran.
The police have stepped up security measures at Larnaca and Paphos airports, ports, synagogues, embassies, and several other locations.
Immediately after Israel opened fire on Iran, the Cyprus Police Headquarters issued directives to district police divisions to enhance precautionary measures and vigilance, prepare action plans, withhold staff leave except in cases of extreme necessity, and ensure the return of staff on leave to be ready to respond immediately to calls.
It is reported that Greece’s Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Harztiotis, currently in Luxembourg, is closely monitoring the situation and stated that a position will be adopted depending on developments.
Additionally, since this morning, the police have increased patrols around embassy zones considered high-risk. Although measures have been strengthened, especially at the Israeli embassy, police are also present in front of the US and Iranian embassies.
Other government institutions are also on high alert due to the clashes. The National Security Council is expected to convene this afternoon to assess the situation.
