Nicosia Becomes the Sunniest Capital in Europe
Nicosia has officially been named the sunniest capital city in Europe, boasting more than 3,300 hours of sunshine each year. According to a study by travel booking platform Omio, the capital of Cyprus enjoys 3,388 hours of sunshine annually — 358 hours more than Valletta, Malta, which took second place.
Rounding out the top five sunniest capitals in Europe are:
• Lisbon, Portugal – 2,838 hours of sunshine per year
• Athens, Greece – 2,773 hours
• Madrid, Spain – 2,712 hours
The rankings were based on data provided by Weather and Climate.
Surprisingly, London came in at 35th place with 1,675 hours of sunshine a year — still more than other popular cities such as Prague, Amsterdam, and Dublin.
