Construction of the new district court building in Nicosia will be completed in five years. Consultations on the relocation of the UNFICYP camp buildings continue.
This was announced by the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Cyprus, Alexis Vafeades, after a meeting of the legal committee of the House of Representatives.
Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Justice, Marios Harsiotis, who mentioned a longstanding issue affecting the efficiency of justice delivery.
According to the Minister of Justice, significant progress has been made in the procedures for the construction of the new courthouse building: preliminary work has already been completed - archaeological surveys and traffic studies, as well as an initial estimate of the project, have been compiled.
He also noted that the Ministry of Transport is closely monitoring this issue, particularly regarding the opening of a second passage through the adjacent UNFICYP camp, and has already been in touch with the Department of Public Works.
Alexis Vafeades, in turn, stated that the Ministry of Transport will need to update the budget to reduce expenses, discuss adjustments to the projects with the Department of Urban Planning, and announce an architectural competition.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that consultations on the relocation of the UNFICYP camp buildings are ongoing.
