New Serious Allegations of Medical Negligence at Larnaca Hospital Following Death of 92-Year-Old Patient
A new scandal is unfolding surrounding the death of a 92-year-old patient at Larnaca General Hospital. In an interview with the state broadcaster, the deceased's daughter alleged serious violations in the organization of treatment and inadequate care during his eight-day hospitalization.
According to her, her father's stroke was initially mild. However, after being transferred to the ward, he was given food and drink despite the fact that, following a stroke, a patient should not eat or drink without appropriate medical instructions. As a result, the man suffered aspiration, which significantly worsened his condition.
The family claims they were not provided with clear explanations and that there was a lack of proper coordination between departments. Additionally, according to the daughter, the insertion of a nasogastric tube was delayed for several days, with numerous attempts proving unsuccessful.
Separately, the woman spoke of an episode that she said deeply shocked her. During a discussion about the patient's condition, one of the doctors allegedly smiled and laughed, according to the deceased's daughter. She asked him to show respect for the family at such a difficult time. According to her, the procedure that day was postponed due to a previously administered anticoagulant.
The daughter also stated that in the final hours of his life, her father was left without constant monitoring, and she was the one who found him lifeless.
The woman intends to file a formal complaint with the State Health Services Organisation (OKYpY) and is calling for a thorough investigation.
OKYpY reported that a written complaint has not yet been received; however, following media reports, an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been ordered.
It is noted that this is the third public allegation of possible medical negligence at Larnaca Hospital in recent times.
