New bill: Medical specialties obtained in Cyprus will be recognized in Greece

The Ministry of Health of Cyprus has presented a bill providing for the mutual recognition of medical specialties between the Republic of Cyprus and Greece. The document aims to facilitate professional mobility of doctors and harmonize medical education in both countries.
According to the proposal, doctors who complete their training and obtain a specialization in Cyprus will be able to have their qualifications automatically recognized in Greece, without the need for additional exams or licensing. The same conditions will apply to Greek doctors wishing to work in Cyprus.
The bill also includes measures to standardize the medical training system: it proposes to establish common criteria for the duration and content of specialization programs. In some fields, the duration of training will be extended — for example, internal medicine from four to five years, surgery from five to six years. Additionally, new medical specialties such as interventional radiology, medical genetics, pediatric endocrinology, and interventional cardiology will be introduced.
According to representatives of the Ministry of Health, the reform will strengthen professional ties between Cyprus and Greece, facilitate the exchange of specialists, and improve the quality of healthcare. After consultations with medical associations, the document will be submitted to the parliamentary health committee for review, and then to the parliament for voting.
