117 Million Euros Allocated to New Municipalities in Cyprus
The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus has announced that, in line with agreements reached during parliamentary debates, a total budget of €117 million will be allocated by the state to the newly established municipalities.

This announcement follows an article published in Haravgi newspaper, which highlighted alleged violations of the financial and administrative autonomy of the municipalities formed earlier this year as part of local government reforms. The €117 million budget has also been confirmed by the Union of Municipalities.
Budgets for the second half of 2024 have been approved, and guidelines for preparing the 2025 budgets have already been issued. However, the ministry revealed that several municipalities have submitted requests for additional funding.
In addition, €3 million has been allocated for the maintenance of the primary road network. Discussions with the Department of Public Works are ongoing to reassess this amount in order to meet additional infrastructure needs.
