Troodos Observatory Wins Prestigious Architectural Award
The National Observatory of Cyprus, also known as the Troodos Observatory, has been awarded the prestigious "Civic Building of the Year" title at the World Architecture Festival in Singapore.
The observatory received recognition in the "Completed Civic Projects" category, which highlights exemplary civic buildings from around the world.
The astronomical observatory, located near the village of Agros in the Troodos Mountains, officially opened its doors on Sunday, May 19, earlier this year.
The €2,678,400 project includes two state-of-the-art telescopes for observing stars and the Sun, along with a dedicated area where amateur astronomers can use their own portable telescopes.
Designed by the Cypriot firm Kyriakos Tsolakis Architects, the Troodos Observatory competed alongside globally renowned firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects, BIG, Renzo Piano, and Foster + Partners at the exhibition in Singapore.
The World Architecture Festival in Singapore is the largest international platform for celebrating architectural achievements.
