OpenAI has launched group chats in ChatGPT for all users
OpenAI announced on 21 November 2025 the launch of the “group chats” feature in ChatGPT, making it available to all users worldwide.
The feature allows multiple people to communicate with ChatGPT simultaneously within a single thread. OpenAI emphasizes that group conversations are completely independent from personal chats, and the personal memory of the group creator is never shared with other participants.
OpenAI highlights practical use cases for this feature: organizing trips together, brainstorming for work, creating shared notes, collecting links and materials, as well as helping to resolve disputes. Everything that participants post in the group discussion becomes accessible to the entire group.
You can create a group via the people-icon and share a link. Anyone who follows the link can invite up to 20 people into the group. Group chats appear in a separate section of the sidebar so they don’t mix with personal conversations.
ChatGPT is “trained” to behave more naturally in group conversations: it tracks the flow of the discussion, replies when appropriate, reacts when mentioned, and uses emojis. The feature is available in the free version of ChatGPT as well as in the Go, Plus, and Pro versions.
