Hotels in Cyprus are expected to have an occupancy rate of 40% in December
According to experts, the tourist flow for Christmas and New Year is anticipated to be relatively low.
Tanos Michaelidis, the head of the Cyprus Hotels Association (Pasyxe), stated that the hotels operating in December will have an occupancy rate ranging from 35% to 40%. Michaelidis mentioned in his statement to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that out of 253 hotels in Cyprus that are members of Pasyxe, 89 are currently open. Most of these hotels are situated in the Paphos region, with 25 out of 59 hotels operating during the winter.
It is also noted that the number of hotels operating in the winter season is limited due to increased operational costs associated with low occupancy and low room rates. According to experts, tourists from the United Kingdom show the most activity during the winter period, but there are also visitors from Poland and Germany. However, the tourist flow from Israel has stopped due to ongoing military actions.
Recall that earlier reports from the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) indicated a 21.1% year-on-year increase in the number of tourists arriving in Cyprus for the first ten months of 2023. In October, tourists from the United Kingdom dominated in terms of visitor numbers.
