Pilgrims from the TRNC to Visit Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca
Pilgrims from the TRNC will once again have the opportunity to visit the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque in Larnaca. The visit is scheduled for Monday, March 31, the second day of Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram), and is being organized in collaboration with the Cyprus Foundations Administration and the Religious Affairs Office. Those wishing to take part can register at their local Religious Affairs Office branch by March 12.
Hala Sultan Tekke is one of the most revered Islamic sites, as it is believed to be the final resting place of Umm Haram—known in Turkish tradition as Hala Sultan—the wife of Ubadah ibn al-Samit, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. Some scholars consider it the fourth most important site in Islam, following Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem.
The last pilgrimage to Hala Sultan Tekke took place in September of last year, when a group of pilgrims from the TRNC visited the mosque ahead of Mawlid, the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
