Cyprus Parliament increases MOT inspection fees for passenger cars and light trucks

On 6 November, the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus approved an increase in the technical inspection fee for passenger cars (category M1 — up to eight seats excluding the driver) and light trucks (category N1 — up to 3.5 tons). The law was supported by 40 MPs, one voted against.
New tariffs
- Private centres (IKTEO) — from €35 to €43.
- State centres (KEMO) — from €40 to €46.
An amendment by DIPA-Cooperation MP Marinos Mousiouttas provides for a price review every eight years. The last adjustment was in 2007. Mousiouttas noted that the increase was agreed by all parties, but the government may revise it earlier if necessary.
DIKO MP Chrisantos Savvidis confirmed that the issue was discussed repeatedly by the transport committee and the decision is the right one. The only vote against came from Limassol MP Andreas Themistocleous.
The exact date of entry into force will be published in the official gazette or announced by the Ministry of Transport. VAT remains unchanged — AKEL's proposal to reduce it did not pass.
