Lead: On Wednesday, during a press conference in Cyprus, the leaders of the Green Party and the Animal Party, Stavros Papadouris and Kyriakos Kyriakou, presented a joint political platform for the upcoming 2026 parliamentary elections.

The partners outlined a broad package of proposals focused on social protection, combating corruption, and sustainable development. The platform emphasizes the need to preserve real household income and counter the rising cost of living.

Economic proposals include stricter market oversight, transparent pricing of essential goods, and anti-monopoly measures. It is proposed to index wages according to the cost of living and introduce strict supervision mechanisms to prevent corruption.

Among the priorities is affordable housing: large-scale social housing projects, rent regulation, and state guarantees to help young people purchase their first home. The authors link these measures to protecting urban and natural areas from uncontrolled development.

On migration, the platform proposes speeding up asylum procedures, strengthening border control, clear integration rules, and measures to prevent exploitation and human trafficking.

The social section of the plan provides for the redistribution of benefits for more targeted support, increasing low pensions, and expanding assistance to vulnerable groups: single-parent families, people with disabilities, and the unemployed.

In healthcare, the parties propose strengthening the General Healthcare System (GeSY) through staff increases, equipment upgrades, and transparent cooperation with the private sector to reduce waiting times and ensure equal access.

Environmental initiatives include a transition to clean energy, biodiversity protection, stricter laws against animal cruelty, improved water management, waste recycling, and sustainable transport development.

The parties also expressed support for human rights, equality, and LGBT rights. On the Cyprus issue, they insist that any settlement must be based on international law. The parties called on society to support their joint “green” program at the early stage of the election campaign.
