A patient was evacuated from a vessel 125 miles south of Limassol

Early in the morning of January 23, 2026, the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (KSÉD) activated the National "NEARCHOS" Plan to carry out an urgent medical evacuation of a patient from a vessel located in a maritime zone approximately 125 nautical miles south of Limassol.
The operation involved the helicopter unit of the Police Aviation Operations. On board was a specialized medical professional from the Medical Aviation Team of the Emergency Medical Service of the State Health Organization (OKYPY).
After the successful evacuation, the patient was transported to Nicosia General Hospital at 08:30 a.m., where they were handed over to doctors for further treatment.
