Cyprus Police Arrest Six Illegal Workers and Their Employer
The Police of the Republic of Cyprus have arrested seven individuals during a joint operation aimed at tackling illegal employment. Among those detained were six illegal workers and their employer, a Greek Cypriot national.
According to the police statement, the operation was carried out by the British police in collaboration with the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus on Thursday, March 6, in Ormideia. The raid was focused on addressing modern slavery, illegal immigration, and unlawful employment practices.
The operation involved four police officers and seven customs officers from the British military bases, along with eight officials from various Cypriot government agencies: the Customs and Immigration Departments, the Labour Bureau, and the Social Insurance Services.
Six workers at a potato packaging plant were charged with illegal residence and employment, while their employer faces charges of employing workers unlawfully.
The statement also mentioned that the detained workers will be handed over to the immigration service for deportation.
