The Cyprus police have initiated an ex officio investigation following information circulating online in recent days about an alleged case of violence involving Louiza Andreou — the wife of Paphos Mayor Faidon Faidonos.

As police spokesperson Christodoulos Konsolos told the Cyprus News Agency, the investigation was launched on Sunday after online publications raised possible domestic violence concerns. According to him, the police are obliged to respond to such information regardless of whether an official complaint has been filed.

As part of the investigation, materials posted on social media, including medical documents whose authenticity and content will be verified by competent authorities, will be reviewed. If potential legal violations are identified during the investigation, further instructions will be given by the Legal Service of the Republic of Cyprus. Otherwise, it will also determine what steps should be taken.

On Saturday, Louiza Andreou published a statement on social media calling the events a coordinated attack on her family aimed at causing political harm to her husband.

She emphasized that she is not a victim of violence, stating that their marriage has lasted 20 years and is harmonious. Andreou described Faidon Faidonos as a "wonderful person" and called for political games to be kept away from her family, noting that she made this statement to protect her loved ones from "malice and gossip."

In a later post, which she described as her final public position on the matter, Andreou clarified that she never filed a police report against her husband nor gave any testimony. She called claims to the contrary "entirely false and unfounded."

She also questioned the motives of those spreading such statements, noting that such actions harm people and their families, and asked whether such behavior serves public information or pursues hidden and selfish objectives.

The police continue their investigation.
