After a Mass Brawl in Limassol, Ten Syrian Citizens Deported from Cyprus

The Cyprus Police confirmed that ten Syrian citizens were deported to their homeland following their arrest in connection with a mass brawl that took place in Limassol last month. A total of 12 people were arrested in the case, most of whom did not have legal grounds to stay on the island.
The deportation became possible against the backdrop of changes in the handling of migration cases. Last week, the Administrative Court for International Protection issued a series of rulings allowing faster return of Syrian citizens if their asylum applications were finally rejected, including appeals.
Now the Ministry of Migration can directly deport Syrians residing in Cyprus without documents after completing all legal procedures.
The authorities also note an increase in voluntary returns of migrants. According to the police, about 11,500 illegal migrants voluntarily left the island in 2025.
Cyprus’s migration policy has also received positive assessments at the EU level. Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the country has "achieved significant progress" in returning migrants. A similar position was previously expressed by former Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas, calling Cyprus "the new European leader in migrant returns".
