After a landslide, residents removed a huge boulder from the road themselves in Cyprus
On one of Cyprus’s highways, traffic was almost completely paralyzed after a landslide due to a large boulder that slid down a slope and blocked the roadway. The incident occurred following adverse weather conditions — heavy rainfall and unstable soil in mountainous terrain.
While emergency services had not yet arrived at the scene, several drivers and local residents joined forces and manually moved the rock to clear the road and restore traffic. Witnesses recorded the situation on video — the footage quickly spread on social media, sparking active discussion.
According to eyewitnesses, the stone was so heavy that it required the combined efforts of several people to move it. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the landslide, and vehicles did not sustain serious damage.
The authorities reminded that during periods of bad weather and after heavy rains, especially in hilly and mountainous areas of Cyprus, the risk of rockfalls and landslides increases. Drivers are urged to be extremely cautious, reduce speed, and immediately report such incidents to road services rather than attempting to eliminate the danger themselves.
