After fires at a shelter for underage migrants in Cyprus, two teenagers have been arrested.

The police of the Republic of Cyprus have arrested two 17-year-old teenagers suspected of arson at a center for housing underage migrants in Oroklini.

According to the police press service, evidence against the two minors was obtained during witness interviews. Based on the evidence against the teenagers, arrest warrants were issued. The suspects have been placed in custody pending investigation.

Recall that a series of arsons occurred at a hotel on Grigori Afxentiou Avenue in Oroklini, where underage migrants, who arrived in the country unaccompanied by adults, are housed. The incidents took place from Wednesday night to Tuesday. For reasons as yet unknown, the minors allegedly set fire to their rooms twice, at 23:46 and 02:40, in two halls on the second floor of the hospitality area.

Both times, firefighters who arrived at the scene managed to extinguish the fire.

As a result of the fires, significant damage was caused to equipment, common areas, and stairwells on the first, second, and third floors of the hotel.
