Cyprus Fire Service Warns About Hazardous Manholes in Villages
The Cyprus Fire Service has issued a warning, urging residents in smaller communities to be cautious around potentially dangerous manholes.
The warning comes after a recent incident in Alambra, where a man fell into an uncovered manhole. Firefighters rescued him from a four-meter-deep shaft, preventing what could have been a serious tragedy.
The man was trapped in a narrow space after the manhole cover in his yard gave way. Rescuers used a safety harness to pull him out. As a precaution, he was transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital’s emergency department.
Speaking to CyBC, Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis emphasized that dangerous manholes are a common issue in villages. He urged residents to stay vigilant and report damaged or missing covers to their community leader or municipal council to help prevent future accidents.
