Nicosia Province Fire Service received over 60 calls due to heavy rain
The Nicosia Province Fire Service handled more than 60 calls related to intense rainfall, its spokesperson Andreas Kettis reported. Additional personnel were mobilized to reinforce the response.
Incidents were recorded mainly in Strovolos, Engomi, Lakatamia and old Nicosia. Most calls involved clearing rainwater drains on roads and pumping water from flooded areas.
A notable incident occurred in Lakatamia on Agiou Meletiou Street, where a school bus became trapped on a flooded road. Firefighters acted promptly and moved the children to a safe location.
Nine Fire Service units, three teams from the Nicosia District Office (EOA), three organized volunteer teams from Support CY and ETEA, and one Civil Defense team were deployed to deal with the situation. Their actions focused on restoring road access and ensuring residents’ safety.
Residents are advised to consider road conditions in affected areas and follow emergency service instructions.
