The government of Cyprus will allocate almost 600 thousand euros to winemakers
The government of the Republic of Cyprus plans to allocate 595,000 euros to the Cypriot winemaking sector. The subsidy, provided as funding from the European Union, is expected to be disbursed by the end of January.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Petros Xenofontos, during the opening of the advisory services center for the grape-growing sector in Vouni (Limassol district).
The allocated funds are part of the objectives of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy for the period from 2023 to 2027.
The aim of the funds is "the development of innovative products, processes, and production technologies, as well as other investments that enhance the value of the supply chain." Additionally, the possibility of increasing this amount is being considered.
According to the minister, the government places great importance on the particularly sensitive winemaking sector, and the allocation of funding signifies that the preservation and further development of Cypriot winemaking regions are of utmost priority.
It is expected that by the end of 2027, the total amount allocated to the Cypriot winemaking sector, in accordance with the strategic plan of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy, will exceed 22 million euros.
