Unions Warn of Electricity Outage Risks in Cyprus
Unions of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have warned of a potential threat to the country's energy security due to delays in key sector decisions.
According to them, the process of replacing outdated power units at the Dhekelia power station, which began back in 2022–2023, has still not been completed. The lack of final decisions and uncertainty regarding the financing of new plants could impact the stability of the power supply.
Union representatives also noted that delays in installing energy storage systems in the grid hinder the effective use of renewable sources. In their view, such systems could reduce the load on the grid and decrease the risk of blackouts.
If further delays occur, the unions warn, the country could face electricity shortages and potential supply interruptions.
