Construction work on the new industrial port in Pentakomo resumed despite protests
In the Pentakomo area in southern Cyprus, construction of a new industrial port is continuing. Following a decision by the Administrative Court, the previously issued injunction to halt the works was lifted. The state initiated the resumption of construction despite active protests from local residents, environmental organizations, and fishing enterprises.
The port is being built in an environmentally sensitive zone, raising concerns about large-scale environmental damage. According to civic associations, after the ban was lifted, the work has been carried out intensively, and the scale of interference with the region’s landscape and nature is becoming increasingly evident.

Previously, activities had been suspended due to the efforts of the environmental movement, which obtained a temporary court injunction. However, in light of the new court ruling and the participation of representatives of the fishing industry as an interested party, the ban was lifted, allowing builders to resume the process.
For the residents of Cyprus, the situation means an increased industrial burden on coastal areas and a possible change in the ecological situation. Such projects may affect both the quality of seawater and the living conditions of the population.
