In Cyprus, 51 people have officially changed their gender and name since the relevant law came into force in 2021. This was reported by the Ministry of Interior.

Among them are 20 men who changed their gender to female, and 31 women who became men. In some cases, applicants changed their gender but retained their previous name.

According to the current regulations, any adult resident of Cyprus can submit an application. To do this, one must contact the district administration and pay a fee of 80 euros. The application includes a short sworn statement, and medical documents can be attached optionally. Those living abroad are allowed to submit documents through Cypriot consulates.

The law allows the registered gender to be changed no more than twice. After the application is approved, all previous documents are annulled, and the applicant must obtain a new passport and identity card. All procedures are confidential, and personal data is protected in accordance with privacy protection legislation.

The full text of the law on the recognition of gender identity and the required forms are available on the website of the Ministry of Interior of Cyprus — moi.gov.cy.
