Hearing for five Greek Cypriots in the "military court" of Nicosia in Northern Cyprus scheduled for September 24
On September 24 at 10:30, the hearing in the "military court" in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, for five Greek Cypriots who have been held in custody since July 19 will continue.
They are charged with "violating a military zone." One of them is also accused of "illegal entry" into Northern Cyprus, while the other four are charged with "concealing" this fact. During today’s session, all five gave testimony; four did so without taking an oath and were not questioned, while the fifth took an oath and was questioned.
According to defense lawyer Onjel Polili, two witnesses will be presented at the next session. The defendants stated that on July 19 they submitted documents at the Turkish Cypriot checkpoint and received them back, and that they did not cross the sign indicating the military zone.
The "prosecutor" claimed that they allegedly collected evidence to file a lawsuit in the courts of the Republic of Cyprus; the accused denied this. The "prosecutor" also stated that no additional witnesses would be called, so the defense questioned their own clients.
It is noted that tomorrow the five will be brought to the Trikomo District Court in Northern Cyprus for hearings on charges of violating private property and public order; two of them are additionally charged with violating personal data.
