58 Police Officers Have Died in the Line of Duty Since the Establishment of the Republic of Cyprus

March 7 marks the International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Police Officers. Since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, 58 police officers have tragically lost their lives while serving their duties. These statistics were shared by the Police Union “Equality” in a statement commemorating the day of remembrance for fallen officers.

“Cypriot police officers also honor the memory of their colleagues from around the world, paying tribute alongside members of the Cypriot Police who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” the statement said.

The union also emphasized that “the daily efforts to uphold order, the rule of law, and public safety are shared globally, transcending borders, cultures, and ethnic differences. The cost of this work is often borne by the officers themselves and their families.”

“In honor of those who gave their lives for public safety, the Interpol General Secretariat declared March 7 as the International Day of Remembrance and Honor for Fallen Police Officers in 2019,” the union’s statement added.
